Open Access Saturday

Saturday Mornings, 11—1.30pm
Mud Gang Pottery CIC,
190 Hercules Road, SE1 7LD

Use this free time to refine your pottery skills. These sessions are for those who have completed a course elsewhere or taken 6 sessions with us. If you are unable to commit to a membership and can’t come during the week, this option is for you. These sessions are not for beginners.

Please do not attend these sessions if you’re not comfortable working without instructions as they are not classes.

Once you’ve purchase your set of sessions, you’ll be able to book in using the calendar below. Please book in for hand building, throwing OR glazing - you will not be able to do a combination as we have a limited number of spots for these sessions and the are untutored.

You will be provided 1kg of clay per session, any clay used over 1kg will have to be purchased at £5 per 1kg. We’ve found that sometimes people make a lot in the session and don’t always come back to finish their pieces, clay cannot be recycled once it has been fired once.

Please have a read of our FAQs and T&Cs below before booking. All passes are valid for 6 months from purchase.

If you are unable to make a session, you can reschedule the class up to 48 hours in advance, using the link in the email you received at the time of booking. After the 48 hour period, classes are non transferrable.

FAQS

How long will it take for my work to be fired?
From making your piece to getting it fired you should allow 3 weeks. We have to allow work to dry before firing to stop it from exploding in the kiln.

Can I come and glaze my work quickly and pay for a shorter session?
If you are only wanting to do a set number of sessions we recommend that you make lots of things in the first session, refine and add to work in the second session and then have lots of work to glaze in the third session.

Glazing can also take a lot longer than you might think, mixing the glazes itself can take a while. You can also experiment with painting on wax resist and drawing designs with ceramic pencils at bisque stage too.

What happens if I get there late or need to leave early?
The session is from 11 to 1.30, you can come later or leave early if it suits you, but the price remains the same and we recommend using the full 2.5 if you want to make the most of your time and money.

What happens if I can’t make a class I have booked?
If you are unable to make a particular class we can exchange it for another date provided we are given as much notice as possible, with a minimum of 48 hours.

How long do you keep work for?
We will keep unfinished greenware for 2 weeks and bisque fired pieces for 4 weeks after you made them. If you want to finish and glaze your pieces we recommend you leave no longer than three weeks between sessions.

Help! I can’t find my work!
Maybe it’s a long time since you last came to Mud Gang, maybe your piece has been transformed beyond recognition since being fired. Sometimes it can be hard to find your work, but unless it has exploded in the kiln it should be there. We recommend that you initial your work and take photos to remind yourself what you’ve made.
