Course breakdown

In the first 2 sessions you will learn hand-building techniques, sessions 3 and 4 you will be introduced to throwing and trimming.

From session 5 onwards, we’ll focus more on how to decorate your pieces using slips, as well as glazing. From session 6 you will get some time to practise the skills you’ve learned with your own projects and ideas, with support from the tutor.

• Session 1 - learn how to prepare clay + pinching and coiling techniques

• Session 2 - learn the slab building technique

• Session 3 - learn the basics of throwing on a potter’s wheel

• Session 4 - learn to trim your thrown pots

• Session 5 - surface decoration and glazing

• Session 6 to 12 - practise your skills and freestyle with the support of our teacher

This course allows each student to keep 14 items. If you want to keep more, there will be a charge of £8 per extra item. This is to cover clay, firings and us glazing your pieces for you. We encourage students to be critical and only keep what they know they will use, if you keep practising you’ll make better pieces! We ‘re also trying to be as environmentally friendly as possible and clay can only be recycled before it has been fired.
