Clay Fest 2024
A whole month of free workshops in the month of August!
We’re having a month of free clay workshops - open to everyone of all ages. Come and have a go, make something! Meet others in your neighbourhood and enjoy learning a new craft with friends. There will be different artists and organisations joining us for the workshops. We also want your help making things to decorate the studio!
Flow + Throw Workshop:
Join Mercedes for a yoga and pottery workshop exploring our connection with the earth via mind, body and spirit through mindful movement and creativity. Starting with a slow and steady mandala yoga class, suitable for all levels, we’ll be focusing on connecting with the Earth and Water elements within us, cultivating a sense of groundedness and flow.
Our studio member Mercedes will demonstrate how to throw vessels, explore how yoga philosophy is relevant to clay creativity, and best postural alignment learnt from her own yoga practice. With plenty of guidance and support, you'll be given free reign to try your hand at the wheel too.
Container for No Land Soil Workshop:
Taraneh will be hosting a workshop as part of her series of artworks titled "Container for No Land Soil" this workshop focuses on themes of immigration, displacement and belonging.
We will be making very simple tiny shapes with clay to fill out the piece I have made as the container. It might take multiple workshops and the participation of many people for it to finally get full, but the most important part of this workshop is the process of making this soil and the conversations that will hopefully happen while doing so.
Textures and Patterns Workshop:
We’re going to make vases or tiles using patterns and textures from outside the studio - feel free to bring something with you such as leaves, bark etc or explore the nearby park to see what you can find!
Dream City Workshop:
We’re going to make a collaborative piece for the studio, dream city!
Using slabs to draw the places we love around us make and paint figures of your favourite people/animals. We’ll talk about where in the city we enjoy going the most and share what we love about these places.
We’ll be ending the month with a Studio Sale!
The sale will be on the 30th August, 31st August and 1st of September.
We will have a private view on Friday the 30th of August at 6pm: no need to book and everybody’s welcome!
